On the 9th of February, 2023, the Firm held the first session of its internal Continuing Professional Development webinar series for the year.

The webinar was conducted by Mr. Paul Emerson, a senior barrister of Devereux Chambers in London.

Mr. Emerson spoke on the topic of ‘Judges and Their Conduct’.

The session addressed matters such as the importance of judges behaving fairly in court proceedings and the extent to which trial judges should intervene in trial proceedings.

Particular focus was placed on the recent decision of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom in Serafin v. Malkiewivz [2020] UKSC 23, which addressed the principles on the expected conduct of trial judges to ensure fairness in trial proceedings.

The Firm is grateful to have had the opportunity to host Mr. Emerson in the session and looks forward to the remainder of its Continuing Professional Development series for the year.
